    to some silent lane or country path where there was a clear patch of grass and arrange all his coppers in rows every 3d on top of each other and every 1 1/2d in the same way. Then he would exclaim to himself "That gets the big bit and that gets the wee bit" meaning the oz. and 1/2 oz. of tobacco. He would work a little for some people, but the person who employed him always had to keep beside him. He generally lifted flax out of the steeping pond or carried turf from the bogs in creels to where horses or carts could reach them.
