- Many proverbs are quoted by people in this district, especially by the old people. ie.
"Saturday's flit is a short sit." A story is told of a man to whom the landlord gave notice to leave his house immediately. This poor man was compelled to leave on a Saturday as the previous days were wet.
He begged to be allowed to remain until Monday, but the landlord was urgent for him to leave at once. He removed on the Saturday and went to another house. He remained there for two days and removed again. He continued changing from house to house for almost a month before he got settled. This gave rise to the local proverb.
Another proverb which is used frequently is:-
"Where much is attempted, something is done."
The old people often quote -
"May Heaven give you many, many, merry days."
Other proverbs are:-
"Believe and you will conquer."
"Make every day of your life count for something."
"Be patient, for the world is broad and wide."
"It is a long lane that has not turning."
