    beside him. They addressed each other and got into conversation. The man noticed the nice buckles on Luail's shoes and then remarked "They are not as nice as mine." Luail looked down and almost died with fright when he saw that the man had a cloven foot. He believed it was the "old boy" who had appeared to him. He made his way home as quickly as he could, put his pack of cards in the fire and was never known to play a game again.
