    large enough to allow the handle of the dash to go up and down. The dash is a round flat piece of wood about the size of a dinner plate with several round holes cut in it.
    Butter is made twice in the week. The old custom is, that anyone who comes in to the dairy, while the butter is being made, is asked to take the dash, in his hand and say "God bless the work". If this is not done people believe that butter cannot be made that day. The churning is done by moving the dash up and down through the hole in the centre of the lid. Tepid water is added occasionally until the milk has reached the proper temperature, then the butter forms and is seen on handle of dash. a lift is put under the churn at one side and it is rocked back and forward until the butter collects together
    At Murphys they have a church which is worked by a horse. It is barrel-shaped with a dash which moves around. Out of this dash
