- Barney church in the parish of Lisdowney about half a mile from Ballyragget, is very old. It was destroyed by Cromwell's soldiers and a bell and chalice belonging to the church are supposed to be buried in Drennan's fields nearby.
There was a pike found in the churchyard and there was a story told about it, that a crowd of people were going to the battle of "Vinegar Hill" and only one of them went to Mass. All were killed except the man who went to Mass and when he returned he left the pike in the churchyard.- Collector
