  1. The Hotel, situated in the Square, Ballyragget was formerly known as "Butler House" and was the residence of Robert Bulter's agents. The Butlers, a branch of the Mount-Garret family lived at Ballyragget Castle and were the local landlords.
    Robert Butler's agent was a harsh man and was very unpopular. The White-Boys marched on the town and attacked "Butler House". Police and some townspeople helped the agent to defend the place. It is said that many of the attackers were killed and wounded before they retreated. They afterwards cursed the town and the saying is
