- (continued from previous page)would suffocate them. They got some furze and put them in the mouth of the cave and lighted them. They then began to dance and sing because they thought they had the people trapped.
But instead of being killed the people were safe and sound outside the cave. A little girl found a second opening of the cave when she used to be playing and when she saw the soldiers she opened the second mouth of the cave so that the people were able to crawl out on their hands and feet to safety. When the soldiers went into the cave they were very disappointed to find no dead people and thought that a miracle had happened.
Long ago, a priest who lived in Uppercourt demense used to walk down the avenue reading his office every morning. This avenue is lined with trees at both sides and as the priest walked down the avenue, nothing could be heard but the continual cawing of crows which had many nests built up in the trees.
