- (continued from previous page)place there is a grass mound and nearby stands an old withered oak tree. The tree, on account of it's situation, is called "the Bishop's tree" and nobody has ever dared to cut it.
Some years ago, a slab of stone was found over what looked like a door in the ruins. It was covered with strange writing and although efforts were made to try and decipher it, nobody could do so. It probably was Ogham, the ancient writing of the Gael. It was sent to Dublin Museum but was returned and it is now said to be in Clomants Castle.
Once upon a time there was a woman who was very holy and she spent all her time in the chapel praying. One night, so intent was she, that she did not notice the care-taker locking the door and she had to remain there for the night. In the dead hour of the night a man in black appeared. He was a priest who had died many years ago. He asked her what she was doing there and she said she was praying and that she was locked in.
