  1. Long ago the poor people used to thresh their corn. They would squitch it first then on a stone and hammered it out of it. They would gather it up afterwards. There would be some corn left in the ears so they used get two sticks and beat it out of them, this was called flailing. There was a woman in Damerstown who used to do it, she used to do a stack a day which was about a barrel of corn. The stone they used was called a quern. Long ago there used to be women going around the country weaving and spinning. They would come come one part of the year, and weave and spin enough until they come again.
