    on a griddle over the fire. The "slim" has to be punctured with a knife to let the gas or air out. Porridge bread was also eaten it was made from flour a pinch of salt and a pinch of baking soda and three or four spoonfuls of oat - meal porridge. All these are mixed together and if not wet enough butter - milk can be added. It is also cut in "farles" and cooked over the fire on a griddle.
    When the cake was made there was a cross cut on the top of it. Milk and water were used in kneading. Bread was made every week generally on Saturday. Boxty bread was made at Hallow E'en. The vessel in which the bread was baked was called a griddle
