  1. There was a hedgeschool in the townland of Oram about two hundred years ago. My great great Grandfather was the teacher. His name was Michael McMahon. The school was held in the open air in a field which is now owned by my father.
    Many pupils attended from the surrounding townlands. The pupils stood in a circle around him. The subjects he taught were Irish, Aritmetic, Reading and writing. The pupils wrote on slates and he had a large slate for a black-board.
    The only pay he received was that the children brought him presents and they sometimes took him home with them for the night.
    He kept moving about here and there through the townland but the place he taught most in was his own field. Another place he taught was in an old bog which is now owned by
