    mother told the old beggar woman about the changed that had taken place.
    The old woman went over to the fire place and put the tongs into the fire to get hot and as she was doing so she said "I believe it is a fairy and we will soon see if these tongs are hot enough."
    The fairy (as it turned out to be jumped out of the cradle and disappeared through the door.
    The fairies used to gather at night and dance in what was called "fairy forts" and when they were going to one or another of these places, it was said that they went in a straight line and if any cow house or stable happened to be on their way the cows or horses died, and no one knew what was the matter until one day a little old woman knocked at the door and told a Mrs. Rooney that they would have to change
