  1. One day Mr. John O Sullivan went to Millstreet with a cheque for two hundred pounds to cash, and it could not be cashed without his brother. William's name being signed to it. He thought it too long a journey to return to Coom to sign his brother's name to it. He then forges his brother's name, and sent Paddy Donoghue the servant outside the town with it, telling him to remain there some so that the people would think he was in Coom.
Paddy did so, and remained there for such time as he would have taken to go to Coom. When he was coming into town again, he took the horse into a river, and threw water on her, so that the Bank manager would think that the horse was sweating after the journey. The plan succeeded.
