  1. A Burn.
    Old people believed that, if a person licked a lizard he could lick a red iron afterwards.
    Such a person was supposed to be able to cure a burn by licking it.
    A Toothache.
    A toothache could be cured by putting a live frog into the mouth and making it screech three times by squeezing it between the jaws.
    Thrush.
    A child who was born after its' father's death was said to be able to cure thrush by breathing into the mouth of the child who was suffering from the complaint. Both should be fasting.
    Another method for curing thrush was to put the bill of a fasting gander into the child's mouth on three successive mornings. The bird's breath cured.
    Whooping-Cough.
    It was thought possible to cure the complaint by going under a donkey's neck and then kissing the cross on the animal's back.
