- In olden times the people of this locality were very industrious. There were many spinners, weavers, tailors, shoemakers, blacksmiths, thatchers, carpenters and wheel wrights.
In the eighteenth and nineteenth century spinning was a great industry in the parish. There was a spinning-wheel in each house. In recent years the spinning-wheel is kept as an ornament in the best room of the house.
The women used to spin thread out of wool and flax with the spinning wheel. They then used to take it in to the weaver who used to weave it into cloth.
There were many tailours in this locality. Bartley Mac Manus, Matthew Clements, Cornelius O' Moran, Denny Savage, and Patrick Flynn. They used to make the clothes.
The blacksmith-trade was a good paying one. The blacksmiths in this parish were Edward Mac Dermot,(continues on next page)- Collector
