  1. The mermaid is half a woman and half a fish. She has long hair and combs it on the rocks with a comb which she makes from the shell of a fish. She was seen combing her hair, and afterwards it was said that a ship was lost. Everyone tries to see her but a great many fail to do so. The mermaid it is said is a woman who was saved from drowning by the fairies, and she got the power of living in the water from them.
