  1. Long ago when there were no toy shops, boys and girls made their own toys, such as tops, guns, slings, bird cradles and snares.
    The tops were made out of spools. Boys made guns out of alder branches.
    Slings were made for throwing stones out of a piece of leather and two long cords tied to each end of the piece of leather.
    Birdcradles to trap birds out of sally rods. Snares were set to catch rabbits.
