  1. In years gone by hurling was a very manly exercise in Kerry and in all Ireland. There was a challenge between two neighbouring parishes Tuogh, and Kilmoiley, as they were the two best teams in the county. The play took place in a grand park near Killarney. There was an immense crowd to witness the play, but before the ball was thrown out, one man from Tough asked for the ball which was called a slither.
    He took the ball in one hand and the hurley in the other, and directed his blow towards a large tree and down came a branch as thick as a horse's body. The gentlemen said that the man must be put out of the play, as he was a dangerous man, so he had to stand aside. He was called Connchubar a Treasaidhe or Con Shea. The play went on and it was a draw.
    After the play Con asked permission to give a few exhibition pucks to the ball for height. He got leave and he hit the ball into the air, and before it came down he had his coat and vest off. When the ball came down, he struck it again, and he had his shoes taken off, and a belt fastened round
