    and eyes glistening like coals of fire crossed the road and growled at him.
    Spud was now sweating with fear and his hair was standing on end so he re-doubled his pace for the shelter of his own fireside when within a hundred yards of it a large black pig appeared. Spud saw her and took to the heels with the pig in full gallop after him. He made for his own door panting and out of wind. Luckily the door was unlocked and he had no delay in getting in. He was scarcely inside the door when it got a bang from the outside which shook the very a big ball of fire shone in the kitchen window and lit up the whole place.
    Spud got such a fright that he was never again seen out late at night.
