- One time long ago a man named Pat Mc Guire of Dunflin Skeen Co Sligo was going to his work one morning. As he was passing along the lake of Loch A Croide, he saw a pony feeding by the side of the lake. He fancied the pony and caught him and brought him home. He had him in his possession for a long time till one evening he went out riding on him intending to leave him where he got him. When he was near the lake the man tried to get off the horse but the horse ran into the middle of the lake. The man on the horse never was seen again, but the heart and livers of the man were seen floating on the lake. That is how the lake got its name Loch A Croide. This lake is situated along the ox mountains in the parish of Skreen Co Sligo.
