  1. The water hen is a black bird with long legs. She is a swift runner. She cannot be eaten. She builds her nest on a tuft of heather in a pond. She makes the nest of moss. She lays five or six eggs, which are black. She stays three weeks on the eggs until the young birds come out of the shell. The birds can talk to each other in there own languages.
