    he met, where Harte lived and who did he make the enquiry with but Harte himself.
    "I hear," said the stranger, "that there is a strong man called Harte in this place."
    "He is not so strong at all," said Harte, "only middling."
    "Would you show me where he lives," said the stranger.
    "I will," said Harte.
    On their way across the fields they came to a gap where there was a heavy stone about a ton in weight across it. Harte caught the stone took it down and stepped aside and told the other man to put it across the gap again but he failed to lift up the stone. Harte stepped over and put up the stone where he found it.
    "You must be a strong man," said the stranger.
    "I am, but I am not as strong as the man you're going to meet yet."
    The stranger hearing this turned and went home.
