Old people say that about 100 years ago a man named Sullivan and a man named O'Brien heard about the gold and went to the Griddle-Rock and dug for it. When they had dug about two feet deep they heard a queer noise coming up out of the ground. They got afraid and they dug no further. No one can get this gold until the serpent is seen lying dead at the Griddle-Rock.
