    to Tully lough. This was very convient to the people as there was a washing pool at the lake. The people had a flat piece of board called a 'battan' and with this they crushed the clothes against a stone named a 'battan stone'. The linen garments of long ago were too hard to wash with ones hands. The landlord was in this district until about twenty years ago.
