  1. (continued from previous page)
One of his most important monasteries was in Kilbarrick, near Sutton, in the county Dublin. As is obvious from the word, "Killbarrick" means "Barry's Church". The site of this lonely monastery was, in centuries gone, given as a token of gratitude by a ruler of Meath to the saint, in return for a miraculous favour. He also established a monastery in Tarmonbarry, on the banks of the River Shannon between Roscommon and Longford. This place also derives its name from St. Bearach whose name in English is Barry.
St. Bearach died on the fifteenth of February 600 A.D. His miracles attracted many from all over Ireland to seek his prayers. The fame of his virtues and sanctity spread to England and Scotland and it was generally believed that there was no favour too great to be granted through his intercession.

These stories were told to me by my Grandfather.
