  1. Long ago there used to be a school in John Devine's barn in Ballygeeher. These are the subjects that were taught in the schools, namely Latin, English Reading and Writing. There was no Irish taught in the schools that time.
    The teachers were usually strangers and their salary was ten shillings each month. The teacher used to teach the people of the house in which he stayed and that is how he used to pay for his lodgings.
