  1. In olden times they used to make their own candles out of rushes. They pealed them first and oiled them.
    They burned as long as the candles nowadays. Soap was made in olden times with grease and powders. When soap was wanting they had nothing to do but to make it themselves. They never had to buy soap. Some used to make it out of lime, powder, and other stiff.
