  1. Long ago the people lived on their own products. The food they ate was mostly porridge or oatmeal bread. They used bread-irons for baking the bread. These irons were placed before the fire to heat. The oatmeal was mixed with water until it was very stiff. Then when the iron was very hot the cake was placed before it. When it was baked on one side it was turned and left until it became very hard.
