- St Stephen's Day falls on the 26th of December and on that day young boys go around with the wren gathering money. They play and sing and in the evening the money is divided amongst the gatherers. The song sung is namely. The Wren, The Wren, the king of all birds.
St. Stephens Day she was caught in the firs,
up with the kettle and down with the pan,
give us some money to burry the wren.
We chased her over and we chased her back
one of the wrenboys broke her back.
We dipped her wing in a bottle of beer
I wish you luck and I wish you cheer
for a merry Christmas and a happy New year. - You are not logged in, but you are welcome to contribute a transcription anonymously.
