    small grain of bread - soda was added. The bread was made an hour before it was baked. When the cake was made it was cut into four parts and each part was called a cant. It could be baked in a brand - iron or it couild be also baked in front of the fire standing against a support.
    The rye bread was made with rye - meal and potatoes. The potatoes were boiled and peeled. Then they were ground with a grater and the potatoes and meal were mixed together. They rye-bread was baked in a griddle.
    Potato cake is made with white flour and potatoes. The potatoes are boiled and peeled. Then they are mashed up and the flour and a small pinch of salt are added. They are kneaded together and made into four or eight cants and baked in a pan or griddle. Long ago potato cake was made for Christmas Night.
