    so he handed the key on until it reached the first man. This gives us an idea of the vast number of monks who dwelt in Eglish Abbey. This is another legend about it.
    A dove used to hover about the Abbey so it happened one of the Castlegar sportsmen went to shoot it. The dove flew from the Abbey to an old lime kiln. Then the man on horse-back pursued him and just entering the kiln he and his horse were struck dead. To this very day the mould of clay over his corpse is to be seen in the Castlegar wood.
