    If they met a red haired man going to the fair it would be the sign of good luck for the day, and if they met a red haired woman, it would be the sign of bad luck.
    If the tongs fell in the fire it is the sign there is a stranger to come.
    If there was a string after the hens leg it would be the sign that there was someone dead.
    If the ass brayed it was the sign of there being a tinker dead.
    They would never give milk on a May day.
    If the cock crowed before midnight it would be the sign of bad luck.
    One magpie for bad luck, two for good luck, three for joy, four for marriage, and five for death.
