  1. The local fairs where the local people transact their business are, with two exceptions held in the towns. These two fairs referred to are held in the village of Craughwell, one on the 24th of October for the sale of sheep and calves and the other on the 16th of December for the sale of pigs and bonhams. No toll is paid at these fairs. The town fair is held in the streets in Athenry, and in the fair green in Loughrea. Toll is paid on cattle sold to a toll-keeper usually at the rate of sixpence per head
