    When he was a small boy he said he was hired and had to work very hard.

    When he was a small boy he said he was hired and had to work very hard. Money was scarce at home, and the small wage he would get would stop some gap.
    He was hired for six months for one pound five and was made earn it. He had to rise at six in the morning and work on to eight. He then got his breakfast, which was a bowl of porridge with buttermilk. Sometimes when potatoes were wanted for the fowls a pot was boiled, and then he got potatoes salt and buttermilk for breakfast.
