    I have been to Glen and Carrick
    In the parish of Kilcar,
    I soon was very sorry
    That I had roamed so far,
    I thought of wife and children
    I never might see more
    And I wished myself back safe and sound
    On the Hills of Barnesmore.

    I’ve been in Mountcharles
    A few miles from Dooran Rock,
    And on a hrvest fair-day,
    The people there do flock;
    Some come from Dunkineely,
    And some up from Gweedore,
    Some come from the town of Glenties
    And the rest from Barnesmore.

    I’ve been to Donegal,
    It’s beautiful, I know,
    It’s built upon the river-bank
    Where the Esk does gently flow;
    I’ve been around its borders
