  1. (Composed by Johnny Cooney, a native of Stranolar)
    There’s a glen in old Stranolar
    There’s a cottage in that glen
    Where once there lived as fair a maid
    As inspired a poet’s pen;
    She was handsome, fair, and hearty,
    And as graceful as the fawn,
    And the neighbors loved the widow’s
    Handsome daughter Noírín Dán.
    II
    Till one morning came a letter
    With her passage paid to go
    To the land of the Wizard,
    Where the Mississippi flows;
    She soon got all things ready,
    And one morning at the dawn
    The widow broken-hearted
    Parted with young Noírín Dán.
    III
    Many years the widow waited,
    But one morning to her door
    Gently walked a slender female,
    Costly were the robes she wore;
    Long the widow gazed upon her
    Shining features, oh, so wan!
