    But when he reached the Reelin Bridge
    He met some rebels there,
    He knew the game was up with them
    As at them he did stare:
    He said: “I have a permit
    For travelling so far.”
    “We don’t want your English permit
    We want your motor-car!”

    We put the car in motion,
    And filled it to the brim
    With guns and bayonets shining,
    While Johnson he did grin,
    And Barney waved the Sinn Fein flag
    As we shot off like a star
    And we gave three cheers for Ireland
    In Johnson’s motor-car.
