Their chief food was oat bread and porridge, salt beef and potatoes.At Christmas, Easter and Hallow-eve tea was drunk. This was considered a great [rarity?]. The tea was first brought to Ireland by a woman who did not know how to use it. She boiled the grains in water & strained the juice Then she ate the leaves. Food called Boxty which was made from potatoes was also used.The cows were milked into a wooden vessel called a piggin.
