    There is a pointed top on the pit like the roof of a house. Then we cover the pit with rushes first and then with clay. The potatoes that we do not need are left in the pits till the fields have to be ploughed. There are about seven kinds of potatoes in the district. They are:- Epicures, Aran Chiefs, Aran Victors, Aran Banners, Dates, Kerrs's Pinks, and Irish Queens. Starch is not made out of potatoes in our district. To make starch the raw potatoes are rubbed on the rough side of a sieve and the starch that comes out of them drops through the holes into a bowl or dish. Some farmers help each other to plant the potatoes. Cuts - the parts of the potatoes that are planted. Scale - scatter. Lay - plant.

    My father plants about one acre and a half each year. My father gets different neighbours to help him to do his work. Then he pays them. Some neighbours help us themselves. We put on the manure before we put down the potatoes. Then
