“Once upon a time thre lived in the townland of Letterfad three men. These men were very good swimmers.”
Once upon a time there lived in the townland of Letterfad three men. These were very good swimmers. They thought themselves the best swimmers in the Co. Donegal. Their names were John Conaghan, James Conaghan and Patrick Conaghan. One day, they went down to Ballyweel Bay. They saw a boat some way off them. They thought to themselves they would swim out to it, so they took off their good clothes and put on a bathing suit. They jumped in and began to swim. They went on and on. At last, the waves began to take them away. There was a house near by[e]. They always heard people saying that there was a dog in this house that saved a lot of people. They began to yell. At last the dog ran down towards the bay and saw the three men. The dog jumped into the water and caught one of them by the back of the neck and took him out to the brough.
