    Hand Staff and Soople together. The two were so coupled as to give ample play to the Soople as the thresher swung it above his head before bringing it down on the sheaf of corn. When one side was sufficiently threshed, the thresher turned over the sheaf by tilting it with the lower end of the Hand Staff.
    Note: I cannot trace the origin of the words - 'caban', 'midgelin' or 'soople' (The spelling in each case is phonetic).
