- In a field near Lucan and on the north side of it, there is a place which was the scene of constant strife in the Penal Days; in the same place there is a large stone called "the hanging stone", which was used for hanging in the days of Lord Carhampton.
A fight took place there between a small body of Carthampton's troops under a man named Teeling and about sixty Irishmen. In the strife about forty Irishmen were wounded and the others fled. Teeling ordered that the men(continues on next page)
