Each pupil used to have one book called a spelling book, in those days some of them were taught Irish from the cradle so they found it heard to learn English. They were taught all Irish prayers at school, also English and grammar. The children used to write on the slates with a slate pencil. There were some desks in the school for the pupils to sit on. When some of the pupils would stay away from school the teacher would go to another district to teach.
