  1. In older times, most marriages took place between Christmas and lent. It was counted a very luck time of the year to be married, and that any other time was unlucky, but that was all pishrags. The man whose daughter was to be married would come and walk the lane some time before the marriage. If the place was not good enough, he would not let his daughter come to live in it.
    They would have a big number of side-cats, and banners flying on the from car. There would be a big dance in the house
