No season is celebrated with such joy and splendour as Christmas. it is the time when the old people unite at the family hearth to celebrate the feast with due delight and joy.
Everyone looks forward to Christmas. Great preparations are made for this great feast. All the houses are cleaned, and the windows are nicely decorated with holly. Here in Magheracloone the housewife seems to have all her interest in the turkeys and geese, trying to have them as fat as possible. On Christmas Eve long coloured candles are lit in every window of the (candle) house, to show that there is a welcome in the house for anyone who has no home.
