    On Christmas eve when children are going to bed they hang up their stockings for Santa Claus to put toys and other things in them. Their parents come along and fill their stockings with toys and they think that it is Santa Clause that brings them. Christmas day is a great feast day. Then comes St. Stephens day when the boys dress up in funny looking apparel, such as straw coats and old clothes and go around from house to house with the wren.
    They say they have to bury the wren. Singing and playing music they come into the houses and dance if they are allowed or made welcome. This is what they shout. "The wren, the wren, the king of the birds. On St Stephens day she was caught in the furze. Up with the kettle and down with the pan a penny or twopence to bury the
