- In my Grandfather's time the people used to take four meals. A plate of porrage in the morning, potatoes, buttermilk and salf for their dinner and a plate of porrage in the evening. There used to be no tea made except for the old people of the house on Sundays. The people used to make bread from potatoes and oaten meal mixed together. Sometimes they would make bread from all potatoes. First they would boil the potatoes, then peal and crush them up well. Then fix it into the shame of a cake and bake it.
The people also used to make bread from oatenmeal. Put the oatenmeal in a basin with hot water. Mix it up and make it into the shape of a cake. Leave it lying on the tabletop for a quarter of a hour, until it firms. The put it up to the fire and let it bake hard- Bailitheoir
