  2. Tanning of Leather
    Above the old bridge of Birr which is situated at the end of Bridge St leading to High St there was a tanyard named Kinehan's Tanyard. It is only a few years ago that the hole in which the leather was tanned was filled up. This house and yard is now occupied by a man named Flannagan. Hundreds of loads of stuff were required to cover in this hole it was so deep.
    Boots and shoes were made in Birr in those days. A family named Winters employed a great many workers in their shop in Moorpark.
