His mother's name was Mary Redmond, and she lived at Killane in the house now occupied by Mr. John O'Byrne.
They had three children, an only son John, and two daughters.John was a great favourite in the parish that gave him birth, and one in whom the greatest confidence was reposed. Of splendid physique and great stature, over seven feet in height he represented the best type of Irish athletic manhood, and wherever he moved, his striking appearance attracted admiration.
