“There is an old graveyard on Mr Byrne's land (Doonooney Adamstown, Co Wexford).”
There is an old graveyard on Mr Byrne's land (Doonooney, Adamstown, Co Wexford) - It contains about two acres of land. It is closed about one hundred years.The owner of the land at that time took down the ditch and let in his cattle.
After some time all the headstones were taken away, and the people made rickstands with them.It is said that wherever these stones are, a ball of fire rises every night and disappears in the sky.At the present day one of the stones can be seen in the graveyard, and bears the following inscription "In loving memory of Martin Murphy who died October 17th 1798"The following is a story of how that stone was preserved to the present day.
This stone was put in the house, where Mr Patrick Fortune lives at the present day, as a hearthstone with the inscription downwards.
